Shirin Neshat And Egypt - A must watch! by sarvin

Shirin-Neshat.jpg

Whether you are an Iranian or not, you probably have heard of " Shirin Neshat", one of the best-known Persian artists in the Western world. As mentioned on the Ted website, she has lived in the United States under self-imposed exile from her native Iran for most of her adult life. This experience of being caught between two cultures dominates Neshat’s creative work: each of her pieces offers a glimpse into the complex social, religious and political realities that shape her identity—and the identities of Muslim women worldwide. Once again she amused me with her new creation of artwork in the service of advancing human rights, cultural understanding, and international peacekeeping.  Make sure you watch below video :-

New piece - Make it Rain by sarvin

Like any other Iranian, I've always been obsessed by our poetry. It's part of our culture. We grow up knowing our poets and their poems.  One of my all time favorites, Rumi (Molana) has always been an inspiration for me as I'm sure for many others. This painting is another example of how his art inspired me. The words in the painting below are in Farsi ; "Freedom", "Happiness", "Hope", "Belief" and "Forgiveness".  Below painting was inspired by one of my favorite Rumi quotes: “Raise your words, not voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.”

Acrylic on canvas - 36"x48"
